The new Little Ducks play equipment has proven to be very popular with the children.
The equipment promotes the use of gross motor skills as well as balancing, climbing, turn taking and task persistence. Many brave Little Ducks have ventured all the way to the top, then enjoyed a slide back down.

On Wednesday 12 October, British International School, Phuket (BISP) students across years 7, 8 and 9 were treated to stunning individual musical performances on the piano from Cat Bendi and Tiffany Yip during their assembly this week.
Nina Hannam and Gemma Massie closed the celebratory event, which included the award of certificates for Rock School and Music exams as well as Cambridge English examinations.
Abbey and Aiden Lemons explained their roles in the publication of ‘For Pete’s Sake’ and raised awareness of the plight of the orangutans which their book both promotes and supports through contributions to charity. This was yet another example of inspiring work and how students can get involved in global initiatives.
Those who currently stand top in receipt of commendations were also celebrated:
Our thanks to Ms Wilkinson and her full team for the performances – none more memorable, inspiring or uplifting than that of the Year 8 Wind Band.
Given many of these students had never played their chosen instrument before starting year 7, their renditions were superb! In an hour a week and homework time, it was an accomplished and confident performance from all and Year 8 are a real credit to the programme.
Great start of the season for our Triathlon High Performance athlete Zoe Bowden at the Sprint Triathlon Asian Cup – ITU Hong Kong with a 6th place at the Junior Elite and 13th overall among all pro athletes.
Following Zoe Bowden’s excellent performance in Hong Kong, there’s been another great result for our Triathlon High Performance Program with Alecos Cristaldi winning the Supersprint Aquathlon in Abu Dhabi! Great job Alecos!
British International School, Phuket (BISP) swimmer Nicholle Toh took bronze in the women’s 200m butterfly at the recent Singapore leg of the FINA Swimming World Cup, finishing third behind three-time Olympic champion Katinka Hosszú of Hungary.
In front of a 1,800 crowd at the OCBC Aquatic Centre on Saturday night (22 October), the 15 year-old member of the BISP Swim Academy set a new Singaporean national record of 2min 11.26sec, which beat a time that had stood for 16 years. Nicholle’s bronze medal was the only one won by the 29 member Singapore swim team at the two-day meet.
In an interview with the city’s Today newspaper after the race, Nicholle said: “I finished third overall after the heats and I was hoping to maintain that position in the final.
“But having said that, I was definitely feeling nervous at the start because I was competing against world-class athletes, some of whom have won many Olympic medals and world titles. I was just glad that I got the chance to race against them.”
Back at their aquatic centre in Phuket, Thailand, BISP Swim Academy Head Coach Colin Braund said, “Nicholle has proven over the last month of racing that she is not afraid of taking on world class senior swimmers and is now posting times of a world class junior swimmer.
“She has a big year ahead of her and now must focus on the process of getting herself on to the National team and use the experience she has gained to be a contender at both the World junior Championships and South East Asian Games.”

Kimiko Raheem from the BISP Swim Academy won eight gold medals for her country Sri Lanka at the recent South Asian Aquatic Championship 2016, which concluded at the Colombo Sugathadasa Swimming Pool on Saturday 22 October.
All South Asian countries took part in the four day event, except for Afghanistan and Bhutan. Champions India were represented by 53 swimmers who took part in 191 events.
Hosts Sri Lanka were the runners-up winning 28 gold, 66 silver and 95 bronze medals, with Rio Olympian Kimiko winning five gold in individual events – the 200m freestyle, 100m freestyle, 200m backstroke, 50m freestyle, and 100m Backstroke – and three golds in the relays.
BISP Head Coach Colin Braund says, “Kimiko has shown that she has adapted well to training in a different environment here at BISP.
“Although the meet was not a major focus for the season she has posted times not far from her best which is always pleasing as a coach to see a swimmer perform well while in the midst of heavy training. We must now turn our focus on getting her fully prepared for the upcoming World Short Course championships in December.”
BISP graduate and aspiring composer Michael Sunguza had a specially commissioned piece – entitled Abandoned Lands – successfully used in a short film by a Congolese photographer.

Students on the Bangkok Art Trip spent the first day visiting the Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA). A spectacular five floor gallery containing Boonchai Bencharongkul’s collection of Thai art, there are over 800 pieces on display.
Students were lucky enough to see work by renowned Thai national artists such as Thawan Duchanee, Chalermchai Kositpipat, Chalood Nimsamer and Paitun Muangsmboon. The gallery is a must for anyone visiting Bangkok, very inspiring.
Congratulations to all those who entered the BISP Primary Bookmarkcompetition 2016-2017, from Reception Class all the way to Year 6. The theme this year was Roald Dahl, to celebrate what would have been the author’s 100th birthday!
“We had more than 110 entries this year from the Primary students, so choosing a winner in each year group was very difficult! The quality of the designs was excellent, with students using their imagination and interpreting the theme in their own creative ways”, says Learning Centre Director and competition organiser Cindy Colson.
All the winners (including 2nd best and 3rd best in each year group) were announced in the Primary Assembly on 7th October and received a certificate.
The winning bookmarks were sent to the printers to be professionally printed, and the students are very happy to see that they have now arrived and are available to take from the Primary Library.
Please see the full list of winners below. Our most sincere congratulations to them! We are already looking forward to next year’s BISP Primary BookmarkCompetition.
Day two of the 2016 Bangkok Art Trip started off with a visit to the HOF Art Space.
Students were able to see site specific work which included graffiti, sculpture and paintings. Mr Richards also gave students an introduction to the Golden Mean theory.
The afternoon was spent at Attic Studios. Here the IB Art students worked with Scottish artist Elsie Evans life drawing. The Year 10 artists learned Japanese woodblock printing with Ralph Kiggell.
