BISP U11 basketballers take on Bangkok schools

British International School, Phuket (BISP) U11 girls and boys basketball teams recently enjoyed a trip to Bangkok for the St Andrews International School 3 on 3 U11 basketball tournament.

The students started their weekend with five-a-side matches against the host school on Friday night. The 3 on 3 tournament ran all day Saturday and featured six schools from Bangkok and Pattaya.

After a big day of competition, the BISP girls Blue team finished fourth in the Cup out of eight teams, with the Orange team beating St Andrews, Tara Pattana International School and American School Bangkok to win the Plate competition. The boys team showed great teamwork and enthusiasm to finish runners up in the Plate competition. Year 5 student Maria made it to the semi-finals of the Skills Challenge and Chloe and Conor, also Year 5, came runners-up in the finals.

BISP Physical Education teacher and coach, Maggie Walby, commented: “The children were a credit to our school, showing respect to the other teams they played and to each other.

“As coaches we were extremely impressed with how well the students played in their

full-court and 3 on 3 games, displaying very good skills and game play against some of the top basketball school teams in Bangkok and Pattaya.”
