This weekend, 26 – 28 April, British International School, Phuket (BISP) will host its biggest swimming event in the school’s 23-year history.
The BISP Flying Fish Invitational is an annual fixture and a major highlight on the school’s sporting calendar.
The event begins on Friday at 2pm, with finals taking place on Saturday from 3.30pm and Sunday afternoon from 11.30am. Spectators can expect to see a total of 26 different events and more than 500 races over the three-day competition.
Just under 500 athletes from 20 international schools in Asia will be taking part, making it the largest Invitational since the event’s inception in 2008.
The BISP team, consisting of 98 swimmers, includes athletes from Learn to Swim right through to High Performance. The youngest athlete taking part is in Year 2. Our High Performance swimmers will be looking to build on previous performances this year, including their achievements at the recent Malaysia Invitational.
BISP Aquatics Director and former Olympian, Hayley Palmer, says the event is a great opportunity for our swimmers to challenge themselves against their own personal targets, as well as other swimmers competing from around the Asian region.
“Competitive meets are good indicators for athletes to see where they are at in terms of their own performance,” she says. “We are committed to providing a fun racing event for both athletes and spectators over the course of the weekend and hope to see many people at the 50-meter pool supporting all the swimmers.”
For regular updates during the competition, you can follow the BISP Swim Academy Facebook page. BISP’s Bistek students will also be producing a live stream of all the action, available at www.youtube.com/bistekphuket/live.
