British International School, Phuket (BISP) students recently proved their mettle at the Primary and Secondary PISAC Athletics competitions held on the island.
PISAC, which stands for Phuket International Schools Athletic Conference, involves four international schools – BISP, Headstart International School, Kajonkiet International School and UWC Thailand.
Thirty-eight BISP students competed at the Primary Athletics event held at Headstart, where BISP finished first place overall.
BISP Physical Education teacher, Maggie Walby, says the students enjoyed the experience and relished the opportunity to work on their technique across the various disciplines.
“The sport of athletics combines the essential and fundamental movement skills of running, jumping and throwing. Our students made a real effort to put into practice what they learn in PE lessons and did the school proud by showing great determination and sportsmanship.”
BISP played host to the Secondary Athletics event, involving 120 competitors, on Thursday 21 March from 3pm. A light breeze gave the athletes some respite from the heat, enabling some fine performances and new PISAC records across all three age groups – including 10 new records set by BISP students.

BISP Athletics Director, Jeff Lamantia, says the PISAC Athletics events are a great opportunity for all BISP athletes to show their athletics skills and versatility.
“We have some extremely fit and technically able athletes at this school and many runners who compete in events in Phuket and beyond. It was great to see many of them out participating. Congratulations and thank you to everyone who took part.”
