It was a busy weekend of competition for our British International School, Phuket – BISP triathletes, with several taking part in events in both Singapore and the United Arab Emirates.
Six BISP triathletes gave it their all in the Metasprint Series Duathlon event in Singapore on Sunday 10th March. With no opportunity to cool off with a swim, the run-bike-run event is particularly gruelling in this part of the world.
Our male and female High Performance Academy athletes competed across three different age categories in the youth duathlon and the longer sprint duathlon. All finished in the top four in their categories. Natalie and Jayden both won their events; Christina finished second; Romeo and Jack came third respectively; and Viktor was fourth. BISP Triathlon Academy Head Coach, Zane Castro, says: “The first quarter of the calendar year is duathlon season throughout the northern hemisphere, so I’m pleased our athletes had the opportunity to compete in one here in South East Asia. I’m happy with how they performed. All of them showed heart and progress on individual fronts. They did well to execute our day-to-day focuses, which is primarily what I want to see. We had an athlete coming back from a long period of injury and her performance was very solid.”
Meanwhile, Tamino travelled to Abu Dhabi to compete in the first stop of the 2019 ITU World Triathlon Series. Competing in the U16 age group, he crashed in the bike leg but was unhurt and managed to get to the finish line in 9th place.
“Tamino showed perseverance and determination in showing up to the line and displayed resilience and competitive maturity despite his crash. I’m confident that with strategy, discipline and commitment, he can regain traction within his performances,” says Coach Zane.
