BISP University Counsellor Jacqui Brelsford was invited to attend a counsellors’ conference at the University of Oxford. This prestigious event brings together counsellors from international schools all over the world for a two-day immersive experience of the university and city. Jacqui toured the university and surrounding areas, sat in on workshops regarding the application process, including the admission tests and interviews, and learnt from tutors and students what it means to be a University of Oxford student and what it takes to be accepted.
University visits and conferences such as this one are an integral part of the role of University Counsellors. Not only does it allow the them to understand the admission process better, but it provides them with a feel for the campus and to be able to report back to students unable to visit before they apply. For a university such as Oxford, whose first-class reputation is steeped in rumour and speculation about what it takes to be accepted, working with a counsellor who has been to the campus and has a relationship with the admissions officers is very important.
In addition to this conference, Jacqui attended the World Class Study in London International Counsellor’s Conference hosted by Imperial College. This included tours and presentations of King’s College London, SOAS, UCL, LSE and Imperial College, all ranked in the top universities in the world.
