Last week, our ‘Friends of BISP’ were invited to explore Phuket Town on foot. The journey started at Limelight Avenue Shopping Mall, opposite a covered free parking area in Phuket Town. While heading down Thalang Road, we explored the many varieties of shopping options from fabrics to souvenirs, clothing & hardware, book shops & cafes and most interestingly Nguan Choon Tong Herb Shop, “The oldest Herb Shop in Phuket”.
After a short walk and discovery of many more interesting treasures along the way, we reached The Blue Elephant Cooking School/Restaurant, located in the Old Governor’s Mansion which has the biggest Banyan Tree I have ever seen in its gardens. Walking back to the centre, passing the Local Market and right into the heart of the Vegetarian Restaurants, we passed Put Cho Shrine and Jui Tui Shrine, which are popular amongst tourists and locals during the Vegetarian Festival. Further along this road, we took a short break in Natural Restaurant, where I can personally recommend the Green Mango Shake as simply the most refreshing drink I have had in a while. Recharged, we headed down Bangkok Road to Gerbera House, which stocks all manner of items you may need for home baking. After some small purchases we headed back towards OnOn Hotel, made famous by Leonardo Di Caprio when he was in Thailand filming “ The Beach”.
We then saw some more landmarks including a ceramic cafe, pharmacy and Seasonal Gifts / Dress Up / Toy Shop and we found ourselves at the end of our journey at RAYA Restaurant (opposite Limelight Avenue), where we finished off our day with some fabulous Thai food at very affordable prices. New places, new faces and new friends were found. What a fabulous day out.
