This week there were 3 consecutive days of Swim Galas at the British International School, Phuket’s 25m pool featuring Primary and KS3 students.

On Monday May 14th, Year 1 & 2 demonstrated skills they have learnt in PE swimming lessons, with a rotation of races, skills, entries and games. Parents and staff were impressed with the students’ skills and water confidence, and the students had a lot of fun.

On Tuesday May 15th, Years 3 & 4, followed by Years 5 & 6, enjoyed a more traditional style gala with a mix of competitive races and fun races. This event was a colour team event, with points being awarded to students’ houses as well as to individual swimmers.
Wednesday May 16th saw the final Swim Gala for the week take place with KS3 students invading the Primary 25m pool. In addition to the traditional swimming strokes, students competed in big-board relays, and sharks & minnows races – all races were for colour team points. Students participated well in the pool and also enjoyed the music and dance competitions with our in-house (DJ) Luke Curtis, the Learn to Swim Coordinator at BISP.
“I’d like to send out a huge thank you to Aquatics Director Hayley Palmer and Luke; they worked very hard to organise such a great series of events,” said Ali Gates, Head of PE.
“The Primary pool was full of noise as all the students cheered on their team mates and provided a fun and energetic atmosphere for everyone. It was great seeing the swimmers showcasing their strokes and skills they’ve learnt throughout the year. It was particularly good to see students of all abilities take part in the inclusive novelty relays at the end of the gala,” commented Luke.
