September 15th(ish) is International Dot Day where students across the globe celebrate the power of courage, creativity and collaboration. “The Dot” by Peter H. Reynolds tells the story of Vashti who doesn’t believe she is capable of creating any art. Her teacher challenges Vashti to ‘make her mark’ and from there on Vashti discovers new possibilities and confidence in her ability.
Throughout the week, the Primary students were engaged in “dotty” activities. The Art Department introduced students in Years 3-6 to the Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama and they all painted and drew their own dot art. In the Primary Library, students played Breakout EDU based on “The Dot” and worked on creating “collaborative” dots from their own and other students’ designs during their buddy-reading sessions. The resulting art display at the entrance of the Primary Library is testimony to the amazing creativity and collaboration that happens at BISP. Come by and see for yourself!
