On Wednesday 12 October, British International School, Phuket (BISP) awarded its first ever Bronze Medal for the Junior Mathematical Olympiad to student Jacky Yao.

This result places Jacky in the top 210 out of about 200,000 pupils – or in the top 0.1% who took the UKMT Junior Maths challenge.

This is a remarkable achievement considering that this is a worldwide maths challenge and that the total number of students taking the three UKMT maths challenges is roughly 600,000 students worldwide from over 4,000 school and colleges.

The UK Mathematics Trust (UKMT) is a registered charity whose aim is to advance the education of children and young people in mathematics. The UKMT organises national mathematics competitions and other mathematical enrichment activities for 11-18 year old UK school pupils.
